To Whom it may Concern, AMA District 17 is an outdoor recreation off road motorcycle riding organization that has over forty clubs and promoters in the State of Illinois. We take this Covid-19 virus very serious, and we all have been following the guidelines provided by the Governor and all of our facilities are currently closed. We would like to inquire about our ability to open our facilities to allow our members to ride outdoors. Some of our clubs have asked and have been notified by local law enforcement that there could be fines, and arrests if their facilities were to open. We feel that with direction from this committee our clubs and promoters could be allowed to open under strict guidelines. We feel we could meet the strict guidelines as well or better than any of the current allowed outdoor recreational activities. One reason we feel we could meet strict guidelines is how off road motorcycle riding keeps riders apart from each other, beyond the six feet social distancing recommendation, at all times. Additionally all our facilities require helmets which keeps riders from breathing on each other and have parking lots that could accommodate the six feet social distancing recommendations. While some of our clubs and promoters do put on “organized racing events” we are not asking for any kind of “organized racing” or event allowances. We are strictly asking for our facilities to be allowed to be open similar to how other outdoor recreation is open with the same guidelines allowed in other recreation processes.. We have a vast majority of members that simply ride for fun with immediate family members and they would appreciate the opportunity to ride outdoors again with their family members. In this day and age of internet and instant information, we are sending you this on behalf of our clubs and promoters. We feel that it’s best to have one voice and one group to work with on issues such as this. If this committee has that ability to allow for these activities, we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss options with this committee. If this committee is not the proper committee could you let us know who is the correct group/person to contact? As weather improves, many of our clubs and promoters along with our members will want to open and allow riding at their facilities. Our concern is that our clubs and promoters could be confused on what recreation is and isn’t allowed and end up going against the governors mandate. This could cause them further hardships in this already trying time. As a group our thought/responsibility would be to get the correct answer from the people who make the decision and make sure our clubs, promoters, and ridership is aware of how to proceed. Respectfully, AMA District 17 Club Council board of Directors.
